Source: Private Turkish firms seek replacement of Gazprom’s gas
MOSCOW, Mar 11 (PRIME) -- Private Turkish gas companies are looking for alternative sources of gas after Russian gas giant Gazprom has reduced supplies, a source in one of the companies told PRIME on Friday.
Gazprom has sales agreements with private firms Enerco Enerji, Avrasya gaz, Akfel gas Bosphorus gas, Shell Turkey, Bati Hatti and Kibar Enerji. In April 2015, the Russian company granted a 10.25% discount for these companies but earlier this year, Enerco Enerji said that Gazprom demands a price increase unilaterally and has reduced the volume of shipments.
The source said: “Private companies are currently unable to compensate the shortages. The only possible option is the extremely costly stored gas or the gas of (Turkey’s state owned) Botas.”
“This also has a devastating effect on the position of Russian gas on the Turkish market and triggers discussions of any possible alternative sources of gas supplies to the country.”
